Using ultrasound (high-frequency sound waves) transmitted via a probe placed on the chest wall (similar to an antenatal ultrasound), the internal structure of the heart is mapped. Movements of the heart chambers and heart valves are visualized. Chest pain<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"\"><span style=\"\">2<\/span><span style=\"\">b. Shortness of breath<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"\"><span style=\"\">3<\/span><span style=\"\">c. Irregular heart beats<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"\"><span style=\"\">4<\/span><span style=\"\">d. Recurrent giddiness or fainting spells<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"\"><span style=\"\">5<\/span><span style=\"\">e. Lower limb swelling<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"\"><span style=\"\"><strong><strong>Patients who are planning to participate in strenuous sporting activities<\/strong><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><strong>Patients with a heart murmur<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><strong>As part of Heart Screening<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"\">How to prepare for the test<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"\"><span style=\"\">Wear a shirt that can be easily removed so as to facilitate the exam<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"\"><span style=\"\">You may eat and drink as you normally would the day of the test<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"\"><span style=\"\">Take all of your medications at the usual times as prescribed by your doctor<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>As this test will take 30-45mins, please visit the washroom before coming for the exam<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"\"><span style=\"color: var(--tcb-color-5); font-weight: var(--g-regular-weight, normal);\"><\/span>How is the test performed?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"\">This exam will take place in a private echo room located in our clinic.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"\"><span style=\"\">1<\/span><span style=\"\"><strong>Before the test<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"\"><span style=\"\">Our female cardiac technician will explain the procedure to you and what the examination will entail<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"\"><span style=\"\">You will be asked to remove your clothing from the waist up and we will provide a clinic gown for you to wear during the exam<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"\"><span style=\"\">Three electrodes (small flat sticky patches) will be placed on your chest wall and attached to an ECG monitor that charts your heart\u2019s electrical activity during the test<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"\"><span style=\"\">2<\/span><span style=\"\"><strong>During the test<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"\"><span style=\"\">You will be asked to lie down on your left side on an exam table while our cardiac technician will place a probe (called a sound-wave transducer) on several areas of your chest. The probe will have a small amount of gel on the end to help produce clearer pictures.
