NS Pre-Enlistment Screening Package $588 (before GST)
National Service is a rite of passage all male Singaporeans and second-generation permanent residents go through when they reach the age of 18. The two-year period as full-time National Servicemen is extremely physically demanding, especially during the Basic Military Training (BMT) period. Enlistees with undiagnosed congenital or acquired cardiac diseases face the risk of sudden cardiac death when put through the rigours of extreme physical exertion.
Aims of the Screening Package
This screening package serves to provide a more thorough evaluation of the pre-enlistee’s cardiovascular status, detecting any significant underlying structural or coronary artery disease not obvious to the untrained eye, so as to reduce the incidence of sudden cardiac death during National Service.
What conditions do we screen for?
This detailed screening package screens for the major congenital (in-born) and acquired cardiovascular disorders that can potentially lead to sudden cardiac death in persons participating in unaccustomed strenuous exercise activities.
The structural abnormalities include:
- Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
- Dilated cardiomyopathy
- Aortic valve stenosis
- Mitral valve regurgitation/prolapse
- Dilated aortic root due to Marfan’s syndrome
- Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia (ARVD)
- Coronary artery disease
The Electrical abnormalities include:
- Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome
- Brugada Syndrome
- Prolonged QT syndromes
Cost: $588 (before GST)
